We take one drop of Thieves essential oil blend in raw, local honey when we’ve been exposed to germs or when we’re starting to feel a little under the weather.

We diffuse it all night and day.

The bottoms of our feet are covered in Thieves and tucked in cozy socks.

Consistent use is absolutely key here. We use it a few times per day or every couple of hours if we’re really run down.

If we’re a little late to catch an icky feeling, we’ll take Inner Defense to get our bodies back to performing above the line of wellness again. It’s easy. Just follow the directions on the side of the bottle.

LUNGS: R.C., Breathe Again, and Snifflease

R.C. and Breathe Again open up passageways and help your lungs work at optimal function.

Snifflease is the kids’ version, which just means it’s pre-diluted.

Diluted doesn’t mean weaker here, though. 

Just that it stretches a bit further and is ready to apply because there’s a fatty oil inside.

So, I’ll carry Snifflease in my purse for all four of us and keep the others in the house.

R.C. and Breathe Again are our go-tos (I prefer the pre-diluted roller of Breathe Again for late night coughing fits).

Dilution…what?

We dilute for many reasons, and not all need diluted, but don’t worry.

It’s super simple.

Why?  Because the ratios are on the side of the bottle.

However…

I usually follow this rule: 1 drop essential oil to 4 drops carrier (fatty oil like coconut, olive, grapeseed, hempseed, etc).

Don’t be afraid.

You won’t mess this up…promise!

Why Young Living ONLY?

I know…what a weird thing to say, right?

We *only* use one oil company. Sounds odd. I know.

But here’s what happened to us in a nutshell:

  • Our two-month-old was diagnosed with a toxin-caused cancer (we know it’s toxin-caused because it wasn’t genetic…seriously, go down *that* rabbit hole for a minute…).
  • Two years later I stumbled upon what it means to have toxic makeup, cleaners, etc.
  • I tried multiple types of “organic” and natural “essential oils” from big and little companies. None of them worked. Some of them made me feel worse.

Natural, Effective Seasonal Relief!

Seasonal relief shouldn't mean reaching for expensive and harmful over-the-counters. This is a much simpler and healthier solution!

Seasonal relief is so simple!

After 6 years of research and digging into every company I possibly can, I will only in good conscience recommend this pesticide-free, synthetic-free, fragrance-free, and hand-weeded company. Here’s why.

Recipe

1 drop of each:

Lemon essential oil

Peppermint essential oil

Lavender essential oil

How to Get Relief

There are two ways to use this blend.

I suggest you do both.

Method 1: Inhale

Put the oils in the palm of your hand. Rub them together. Cup your hands and cover your nose and mouth to breath the blend in deeply.

Do this a few times until you feel relief and repeat as necessary.

We like to carry a rollerbottle with us because it travels so well.

For that, add 10 drops of each oil and fill the rest of the bottle with your choice of carrier oil.

Carrier oil is just a fatty oil you have in the kitchen like olive, sweet almond, grapeseed, jojoba, or coconut oils.

*For rollerbottle recipes, you’ll need liquid coconut oil like I linked above.

OR

You can also diffuse. My forever favorite diffuser is the 12 hour Desert Mist by Young Living.

Method 2: Ingest

Put one drop each in a vegetable capsule (you can get these here) and take with a glass of water as needed.

OR

Put one drop of each in raw, local honey (said to have its own allergy-busting benefits) and take as needed.

OR

Put one drop of each of the three oils in raw milk and take as needed.

Consistency is Key!

You’ll need to continue using this for relief as often as needed.

It’s amazing that with how often your allergies kick up, you can be free from scary ingredients.

In fact, you’ll be supporting your entire body while doing so!

There is a belief that allergies, while common, are not normal.

Until you sort all of that out, keep consistent and carry your oils with you, so you don’t have to reach for the dangerous over-the-counter junk.

How to Use Lemon Oil

There are three ways to use Lemon essential oil.

1. Topical

Mix one drop Lemon oil with 1 drop carrier.

Rub into skin where needed, avoiding places that will see the sun.

Some good places to apply are the spine, brain stem, and bottoms of your feet.

Carrier is just a fatty oil you have around the house like coconut, jojoba, almond, olive, etc. They help dilute, stretch, and absorb the lemon oil better.

2. Aromatic

Put a few drops in a diffuser.

My favorite will forever be the Desert Mist 12 hour diffuser from Young Living.

You can also put a drop of Lemon into the palm of your hand, rub them together, cup and inhale deeply.

Internal

Clove

According to Life Science Publishing, Clove was, “reputed to be part of the Marseilles Vinegar AKA Four Thieves Vinegar that bandits who robbed the dead and dying used to protect themselves during the 15th century plague.”

How to Use Clove Essential Oil:

  • Keep bees at bay: 20 drops Clove, 10 drops Tea Tree, and 10 drops Citronella in a 15mL roller bottle + carrier of choice
  • Layer with the following oils (one drop each) when detoxing: Lemongrass, Helichrysum, Clove, and Patchouli. Rub in this order for 30 seconds each on the bottom of your feet and over the liver and kidney areas. Add 4 drops carrier oil.
  • Diffuse this “Pumpkin Pie” recipe: 3 drops Orange, 2 drops Cinnamon Bark, 2 drops Clove, 2 drops Nutmeg, and 1 drop Ginger
  • Support your respiratory system with this roller bottle: 20 drops Frankincense, 10 drops Ravinstara, 8 drops Clove, 6 drops Myrrh, and 3 drops Sage in a 15mL bottle with your choice carrier.

What Clinical Studies Have Shown

When distilling the Basil leaf, it has been shown to have anti-cancer properties. Just to be clear, I’m not aiming to heal, treat, or cure a dang thing. I’m just sharing what the ole scientists have reported. K? K. 😉

They have also found that it demonstrated strong bactericidal action against microorganisms.

In the 16th century, the powdered leaves were inhaled to treat migraines and chest infections. The Hindu people put basil sprigs on the chests of the dead to protect them from evil spirits. Italian women wore basil to attract possible suitors. PRACTICAL WAYS WE USE BASIL:

Let’s get down to it!

Pin this or dig out your special oily notebook and add these for future use!

1.) Growing pains! Dilute and apply right to the sore shins or knees (that’s where our boys hurt the most) or wherever it’s needed.

2.) Use as a part of the Raindrop Technique (included in Kitty and dog Raindrop as well!)

3.) Add to shampoo or conditioner for extra shine.

4.) Add a drop or two to the bath to help wind down at the end of a stressful day.

5) Three drops Basil + 1 dropper of CBD Base for sore muscles.

6.) Add a drop to marinades or pasta sauces for amazing flavor!

7.) Get more basil oil in your diet when enjoying one of our Slique Shakes.

8.) Dilute and apply to brainstem area when dealing with confusion.

9.) Put one drop neat into the palm of your hand, cup hands, bring to nose, and breathe in deeply when needing to refocus and concentrate.

16.) Dilute and put on any ligament sprains or tears this house of athletes may suffer! I can take 15 drops of Aroma Siez (has Basil in it) and add it to 5 drops Lemongrass and apply 3-6 times per day.

17.) Add to veggie capsule for heartburn (it always strikes me right before bed–ugh!): 8 drops Sage, 3 drops Sacred Sandalwood, 2 drops Basil, 1 drop Palo Santo. You can use any single or mix of these oils you have.

18.) Dizziness! While I’ll need to figure out the root cause of any time I’m experiencing dizziness, I’ll grab the Basil and put a single drop under my nose to feel better first.

19.) This one has been put to the test a few times in our house: Place 2 drops Basil on a small piece of cotton and place it in our ear when we have an earache. I’ll also dilute it and rub it around (but not in!) our ear. This is one of the most amazing things we’ve experienced with Basil. It’s our go-to.

20.) Likewise, we’ll do the same when we have ear infections. Of course, I also tag team it with taking Thieves in honey to help in the way it always does in our house–fighting that ick!

21.) Ever get ringing in your ear? So thankful we can take a drop of Basil and rub it along our ears, on temples, forehead, and the back of our neck whenever we need that annoying bit to stop it right now!

22.) Mental fatigue hits me around that middle-of-the-day slump! Breathing in a drop of Basil in my cupped hands perks me right up!

23.) Put a drop on corns and calluses 3 times a day. I can also use this mixture: 4 drops basil, 2 drops Myrrh, 2 drops Cypress, 1 drop Oregano, and 1 drop Hinoki. I’d apply this directly to the corn/calluses undiluted.

24.) I have used this multiple times for migraine, and it just flat out works! Massage Basil onto temples, base of the neck, center of the forehead, and at nostril openings. Massage on thumbs and big toes. Place warm compress with 1-2 drops of Basil on the back of my neck. I like M-Grain (has Basil in it) for this. I’ll also press a drop of Thieves to the roof of my mouth. If it’s sinus related, I’ll also rub Deep Relief along my sinuses.

25.) Okay, listen up new mamas (or older mamas like me, cause this never goes away!): Hemorrhoids. YASSS. Okay, here’s what you do: add 4 drops Basil, 1 drop Cistus, 1 drop Cypress, and 1 drop Helichrysum (or whatever mix of those oils you have on hand) and mix it into some Rose Ointment. You can dip a cotton round into this if you don’t have Rose Ointment, or just spread it on one if you do and place it where the sun don’t shine. If it stings a little, that’s okay. You’re not hurting yourself, promise. We both know those things are buggers. By the next application, you should be feeling some relief. I know I do!

26.) Menstrual cramps,anyone? Grab that Basil! Dilute and rub over your lower back and stomach. Kick it up a notch in the relief department when you add the Basil to a warm compress. Ahhhhh!

27.) Bruise from a kid running into you really hard? No? Just me? 🙂 Add some Basil to carrier and rub over the bruise a couple times a day.

28.) Charley Horse, muscle spasm, or cramps (ugh! Pregnancy attacked me on this front!). Grab some Sulferzyme and add a drop of Basil and chug, girl! Or, if you don’t much love the taste of a pizzeria in your delicious Sulferzyme, you can have your Basil on the side in a veggie capsule. 🙂

29.) In this computer-driven life, Carpal Tunnel can run rampant. I love that I can dilute Basil and massage this into where it hurts most.

30.) Okay, I know this is super “ew,” but I’ve had to use this before. Parasites (which are way more common than I realized!). Take 3 drops in milk or in a capsule twice a day for 7 nights before bed. Rest 7 nights. Do this three times/cycles. I experienced a huge difference.

31.) Poison Ivy/Sumac/Oak. How do my boys always find this stuff? I have gotten rid of it more than once using just oils. Put 4-6 drops Basil and 4-6 drops Peppermint diluted on the affected areas twice a day. You can also add it to a cold compress to help any swelling.

32.) Dilute and use on spine for good spine support and health. I have a disc issue. I love that I can put Basil right on the area when it hurts. Especially when I just seem to have nagging lower back pain. Same for my neck and sciatica (hello, pregnancy!)

  1. Fresh storage: Drop on a cotton ball and place in drawers.
  2. DIY After-Sun: Add 15 drops to a 2oz spray bottle and fill the rest with water. Spray on burns. Add 5 drops Peppermint if you’d also like a cooling effect.
  3. Foot Scrub: Put 1/4 C epsom salt (choose a safe one like this!) in a glass bowl. Add 15 drops Australian Ericifolia and drop your choice carrier oil until you get a texture you prefer. Massage on feet and any rough spots then rinse and dry well.
  4. Scalp Refresher: 1 teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon hair oil, 1 drop Australian Ericifolia, and 1 drop Rosemary. Massage onto your scalp then wash and dry like normal.
  5. Stress Relief: Put 15 drops into a 10mL rollerbottle and fill the rest with carrier of choice. Keep in your bag for stressful situations. Roll on wrists or chest for calm.

Your kid falls down, but there’s no scrape or bump or bruise in sight.

They insist they need a bandaid.

It’ll make them feel better. They just know it, Mama.

We do this as adults, too.

A Day in the Life of an Oily Family

How I wish I’d been taught to be an oily family when I was making my home from the start!

Now that I’ve got it, I love to share it with others.

In this article, I’m going to share with you what it’s really like to live this lifestyle.

Welcome to our home!

Wake Up!

Good morning!

To flush our bodies of toxins we’ll encounter out in the world, we use Lemon oil.

Lemon essential oil from Young Living doesn’t have the acidic wear and tear on your teeth that the flesh of a lemon would.

I don’t know about you, but we just don’t drink enough water if we aren’t super intentional about it.

So, we fill up our water bottles first thing (we’ve been loving these bottles!) and put a drop or two of Lemon oil in there to help boost our immune system and help us drink more water.

In the Kitchen

We start our morning in the kitchen cleaning up after breakfast.

What I love about Thieves Dish Soap is how concentrated it is. We get lots of bottles from one!

It also knocks out grease like an old pro.

With two boys and a dog, killing germs and cleaning dirty hands is important.

Being able to split this one soap into four is even better.

I just grabbed these foaming hand soap bottles from Amazon, poured a fourth of the concentrate in, and filled the rest with water.

DOES SIGNING UP MAKE ME A “DISTRIBUTOR”?

Nope! You aren’t ever required to sell.

When you become a wholesale member, you get a special link you can share with friends and get credit from their purchases, but there are no minimum sales amounts if you choose to use it.

In fact, 90% of the wholesale members in Young Living don’t do the business side at all. They’re buying from Young Living because of the quality.

WHAT ABOUT MINIMUM PURCHASES?

There are NO minimum monthly purchase requirements.

To remain a wholesale member, you have to make $50 worth of purchases per year to keep your membership.

But if there’s a year that you don’t make a $50 purchase, you can reinstate your wholesale membership discount by just placing a $50 order.

If you do find yourself making regular purchases each month, then Young Living has a rewards program (called Essential Rewards) where you can make a nice percentage back in product credit each month on all of your purchases.

WHY SHOULD I BUY FROM YOUNG LIVING INSTEAD OF OTHER ESSENTIAL OILS COMPANIES?

It does seem like a new essential oils company pops up every day, doesn’t it? 

I can’t speak to the quality of other companies, but I can say that Young Living was the only company in my research of essential oil companies that could answer all of my questions about purity in a way that was satisfactory to me.

Young Living was the only company that:

  • Has their own farms (in the regions where the plants should be grown)
  • Could guarantee that no pesticides or herbicides were used in the growing of any of their oils (they use essential oils for pest control and they do all of the weeding by hand). Organic is not pesticide or herbicide free. It’s a step down.
  • Has their own testing equipment (they do both in-house and 3rd party testing, and use many different testing methods not just GC/MS which only tests for certain chemicals, not whether those chemicals are synthetic or not)
  • Only uses the first distillation of oils instead of adding chemicals to get more out of the plant.

Young Living also was the only company that was directly in charge of essential oil farming operations.

Every other company I researched goes through some kind of an “oil broker” to buy their oils. Even if they’re “sustainably sourced,” that’s not something you want.

They have to trust that the oil broker is telling the truth, who has to trust that the essential oil distilleries are telling the truth, who have to trust that the farmers are telling the truth about what they say they are doing.

With Young Living, you just have to trust one company instead of several.

I felt the most comfortable trusting Young Living since they’re a full-disclosure company.

ANYONE can visit the farms, participate in the harvesting and distillation, view the Young Living labs, and see the entire process. That’s not an option with any other company!

INGREDIENTS:

DIRECTIONS:

  • This first-aid spray is for minor cuts and abrasions. If you have a serious cut or wound, consult your physician.
  • Pour distilled water into spray bottle. Add the drops of essential oils, and shake to mix.
  • Clean all cuts and abrasions thoroughly and then spray the area with the first-aid spray.
  • You may want to cover the area with the sterile gauze to which you have applied 3 drops of Lavender.
  • This application should be repeated 2 times daily as necessary.
  • After 3 days, you should allow the cut or abrasion to be exposed to the air, if possible.

A New Generation: Rising Up to Be Well

Each generation tries to gift their kids a better life. Our generation may be the first to get it all wrong.

From birth, our parents made trade school, college, or some form of secondary education was our top priority .

We’ve handled with those gifts in our own ways.

We reaped those rewards (or paid heavily for them).

But to gift our kids the same, is putting them so far out in left field, they may never get a chance to play ball.

However, it may not be for the reason you’re imagining.

Why We’re So Off Base

For decades upon decades, we’ve been told schooling is the only way to get ahead.

However, at closer inspection, take a look at what this generation has that their dial-up parents didn’t.

They’re dripping with information. Lousy with it.

They carry it in their pockets for crying out loud.

Yet we still harp at them that this is it. The one thing that will make or break them.

We have to sound absolutely crazy. They get that education is important. It’s common knowledge to this generation. Common. Knowledge. Nothing to pass along, friend.

They get it.

Meanwhile, cancer rates are soaring, diseases are running rampant, and obesity is a sickness a huge amount of Americans have denied is even a problem.

How in this world do we expect our children to become adults that can use their education if they’re too sick to show up to a job?

What Needs Fixing

The main issues are hard to see. Like…really hard to see.

Why?

Every other commercial on the television is pushing the problems and treating them like gifts.

The main issues we need to resolve for our kids are:

1. Food

You’ve heard the old adage: food is medicine.

That’s no joke.

Prepackaged “healthy” foods are immediately unhealthy.

Pesticide-sprayed fruits and vegetables are flat out proven to have less nutrition than organic and chemical free produce.

Our children drink more sugar in one beverage than they should consume in an entire day.

Yet we’re surprised when we see the charts shouting at us that we’re sicker than ever…

The only way around this is to find chemical-free and organic farms that we can buy from to bring costs down. To budget in organics just like we do a cell phone bill.

We were shocked at how many “safe” products were full of synthetics, fragrances, and pesticides.

How can companies get away with this?

We keep buying it!

We’ve got to look into what we put on our body and in our air, friends!

This is dire. And I do mean DIRE.

The average American home is up to five TIMES more toxic than the most populated and industrialized cities!

It’s no wonder the cause of 95% of cancers is toxins.

Every single hour of burning a candle in your home is the same, toxicologists say, as smoking a cigarette.

Imagine putting a cigarette in your baby’s mouth.

What do we expect when detergents and soaps marked cancerous and hormone disrupting are marketed to children?

Dependency on Medicine

I could talk about this and the lifestyle products for hours, but I’ll be brief.

Somehow we’ve forgotten that medicine is a LAST RESORT.

Somewhere in the last twenty years we decided that popping a pill or dropping acetaminophen in our kids’ mouths every time their temperature goes above 99 degrees is fixing the problem.

Please. We have to stop. Now.

Don’t you see?

While we aren’t panicking about the new virus, we have been thinking about our top 5 light prepper must have items.

Those guys haven’t left their homes in a month.

Would we have what we needed if that were us?

I’m not so sure I’m 100% on board with the full-on prepper thinking, which is why I’ve labeled this light prepping.

Everyone has to start somewhere, right?

Here’s our top 5.

We need water, right?

If our source to clean water was somehow cut off, I’d like to know I could give my family one of our most basic needs.

Let me be super frank with you.

The immune boosts in the store don’t work.

They have synthetic flavoring, cane syrup, and sugar.

Sugar=lowered immune system.
